So now I’ve graduated from university and I’m feeling pretty good about myself. I mean who wouldn’t right? After all, I just did exactly what my parents always told me to do, and got myself one of those fancy new degrees that everyone is always talking about. The piece of paper that was supposed to open doors for me and lead me into the economy with a large advantage over those “slackers” who went into the job market after high school. The only problem is that someone forgot to send that memo to potential employees. See, it appears that they have figured out that Liberal Arts Degrees are not all that important when it comes to accomplishing real world tasks. However, that experience of people who started work right after high school is actually fairly important, and is really fairly attractive to employers. So that leaves me standing here wondering What to do with a liberal arts degree since I plainly can’t just get a job.

The Stress Killer

Stress is a silent killer. It can lead to psychological disorders and even cardiovascular diseases. To overcome stress, some people engage in exercises while others have hobbies. I have both. Before I get to work in the hospital, I make it a point to jog at least an hour either indoors or outdoors. Working as a certified nursing assistant in a trauma center can be very stressful. Other than jogging, I also took up photography as a hobby. I started taking photos of landscapes and cityscapes. I make it a point that I always have my gears ready so I can shoot a sunset over the ocean or over the city. At night I go out to take some pictures of streets and buildings. Recently, I got a zoom lens and started to take some photos of sporting events. The best thing about my photography is when I have my photos printed and framed and display them in my wall. I feel refreshed just by staring at them.

Going back to school was a big deal for me. I had not been in school in five years, but finally realized that I had to do something so I wouldn’t have to settle for low paying, going nowhere jobs. I guess I was naive and didn’t realize how very much trade schools can offer. It takes less time and less money to get the education needed to get out of the lowly positions I kept finding myself in because I didn’t have a degree or any further education after high school. Luckily I was able to get right back into the groove and this has been a wonderful experience. I know that when I graduate I will be able to find a job that will pay better in a career that I love more and more everyday.
